AFTON TERRACE

The initial brief was to re-locate the kitchen from an original extension back into the main house and free up some space within the extension to form a Family Room. From our first meeting it became clear that this would not address the underlying problems with the house and garden which was north facing and surrounded on all four sides by buildings.

Our Clients decided to run with our proposal. The original extension was demolished, a new green-oak extension built on the opposite side of the garden against a neighbouring two storey extension and the rear of the main house 'knocked' together to form an open-plan Kitchen/Dining Room. By doing so the domineering visual effect of the neighbouring wall was reduced and the view from the extension focused away towards the garden and skies. Additionally we were able to unify the irregular shaped garden to create a more useful exterior space.
