MAYFIELD ROAD

In keeping with a number of our projects, our Clients wished to update their traditional home and incorporate an open-plan Kitchen/Dining/Living area. This was achieved by 'knocking' through the existing Kitchen and Dining rooms within the main building; the existing single-storey wash-house was demolished and a larger new green-oak, steel-sheeted roof extension was constructed in its place. To maximise light and the relationship with the garden the walls were fitted with generously sized glazed sliding doors in Iroko hardwood to complement the oak.

Rooflights were fitted into the roof and positioned to take full advantage of the sun's position in the sky. The existing rear windows were removed and turned into doorways and internal windows allowing a substantial degree of spatial penetration between the main house and the new extension. A raised patio was then constructed outside the extension leading down to the lower garden.
